How often should I schedule an eye exam?
Is it necessary for the doctor to dilate my pupils during the exam?
When should I worry about eye floaters?
I’m not sure what vision insurance I have. What should I do?
We recommend yearly eye exams. This is important to monitor your eye health for certain eye diseases that can lead to blindness if not diagnosed early.
Although pupil dilation is not always necessary, the doctor may make this decision during your exam. If required, this painless process is like opening a door so the doctor can full examine your retina. Dilation can assist in detecting disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure and macula degeneration.
Most of the time, eye floaters are a harmless sign of aging. But there are times when floaters may indicate a severe vision problem. If you ever experience flashes, a black veil or curtain, an increased number of floaters or loss of vision, this could be a sign of a retinal detachment. Always call the office right away.
If you give our office a call, one of our staff members can help identify and give you further detail regarding your benefits. Usually, it is possible to figure this out over the phone.
